Abstract
In an analysis of 30 peer-reviewed studies of the relationship between owning pets and depression, 18 studies reported no difference between pet owners and non-owners, 4 reported that pet owners were more depressed and 4 reported they were less depressed and 2 reported mixed results. Overall, the research on the effect of pets on reducing depression indicated that living with pets has no effect.
