Abstract
During Covid lockdowns, shelters and pet stores have reported an increased demand for pets to adopt or buy. It has been suggested that pets might help address loneliness during periods of social isolation. A new study in the UK found that there was a small positive effect of pet ownership during Covid lockdowns but there were also associated worries such as what might happen to the pet if the owner became ill.
